A Christian View of 2022 - #23

When? - has become a silent, searching question that has only become more frequent and more fervent as 2022 begins its journey into the second half of the year.

When? - speaks to the weights and worries that we carry. When will the night end? When will I catch a “break?” When will things turn around?

David gives voice to our struggles …

Psalm 13:1-2 NLT

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

When? - speaks to the prophetic passages that promise the Lord’s return. “Soon” seems to be the standard reply. The eyes of the Church are on the “eastern skies.”

When? Yet we watch and wait.

When? - Maybe a loved one’s disease, dementia or dysfunction forced a “when?” out into the darkness and despair.

When? - Was it an addiction and relapse that caused the patient- robbing question ?

My Friend, I join your frustration, your failings, your fears. Often, I have heard “when?” escape my own mouth when facing my own troubles.

But this I do know …

Until the dawn breaks, until the hurt turns to healing, until the wrongs are made right, until the dungeon turns into deliverance …

1. God will never forsake us Hebrews 13:5

2. God will be faithful - 1 Corinthians 10:13

3. God’s peace will be yours - Phil. 4:6-7

4. God’s grace will be sufficient - 2 Cor. 12:9

5. God’s Word will be true - Matthew 24:35

Can anyone still remember this comforting, classic song? Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for the soul to breathe in the truth again …

Verse 1

My heart can sing When I pause to remember A heartache here Is but a stepping stone Along a trail that’s winding always upward This troubled world Is not my final home

Chorus

But until then My heart will go on singing Until then With joy I'll carry on Until the day My eyes behold the city Until the day God calls me home

Verse 2

The things of earth will dim and lose their value If we recall They're borrowed for a while And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble Remembered there will only bring a smile

Verse 3

This weary world With all its toil and struggle May take its toll Of misery and strife The soul of man Is like a waiting falcon When it's released It's destined for the skies

So let your “when?” be softened by the hope that emboldens our hearts and enables us with a song in the night.
